Easy Solutions

Many of the problems of light pollution are easily and cheaply mitigated using good lighting practices.
  • Use the right amount of light. Do not overlight.
  • Turn the light off when not in use
  • direct lighting downward. If this is not possible, provide shielding to limit stray light
  • installing full cutoff lighting fixtures on permanent structures to limit glare, light trespass and sky glow
  • consider using low-pressure sodium lamps to minimize the color spectrum of the light that is emitted
